Give a Day, Get a Disney Day Free

Give a Day, Get a Disney Day Free

As I’d love to make it down to Orlando next year, I’m going to try & take advantage of this deal:

Disney is partnering with the HandsOn Network for the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day Free promotion. The premise is simple: If you give your time & volunteer for a day, you’ll get voucher for a free day at Walt Disney World or Disneyland theme parks.

As always, the deal has stipulations. Here are the highlights:

  • You’ll need to search online for a volunteer opportunity & sign up to participate. The catch is that you can’t start looking for those opportunities until January 1, 2010.
  • Once they verify your service, you’ll receive the voucher for free admission.
  • The program ends on December 15, 2010, or once all of the tickets are distributed, whichever comes first. I believe their goal is to inspire a million people to give, so sign up on the early end of things if you’re planning to participate.
  • There’s a limit of one ticket per person, regardless of the number of hours donated. But the program is open to anyone age 6 or older, so if you get the family involved, you can get most of them in for free. The vouchers are not transferrable though, and you will need to produce a photo ID or a copy of the birth certificate at the gate.
  • The eligible volunteer opportunities are located in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada.
  • If you’re buying a multi-day pass or an annual pass, you have options: Instead of the voucher, you can get a free FASTPASS for you & up to 5 other members of your party or a collectible ear hat figurine with trading pins. Or you can donate your voucher to a non-profit organization designated by Disney.

Think you’ll forget to register? Click here to receive an email update reminder from Disney.

2 Cans of Soup = Free Slice of Stefanie’s Red Velvet Cake Cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory, Perimeter Mall, on September 18

2 Cans of Soup = Free Slice of Stefanie’s Red Velvet Cake Cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory, Perimeter Mall, on September 18

Swap two cans of soup for a free slice of Stefanie’s Ultimate Red Velvet Cake Cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory?

Here’s the deal: The Cheesecake Factory hosting a Drive Out Hunger Tour in cities across the U.S. At each stop, the first 500 people to bring two cans of soup to The Cheesecake Factory will receive a free slice of Stefanie’s Ultimate Red Velvet Cake Cheesecake. Each event features live music & a “special gift for everyone” (though I have no idea what that gift may be…), too, so it should be fun even if you miss out on the dessert freebie.

The Atlanta event will take place from 7:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. on September 18, 2009, at The Cheesecake Factory’s Perimeter Mall location, 4400 Ashford-Dunwoody Rd., Atlanta.

BOGO Adult Tickets to the America I AM Exhibition at the Atlanta Civic Center

BOGO Adult Tickets to the America I AM Exhibition at the Atlanta Civic Center

Have you stalled on seeing the America I AM exhibition at the Atlanta Civic Center? Best head out soon before it’s gone. Atlanta is the second stop on the America I AM: The African-American Imprint exhibition’s four-year tour across the country. America I AM brings together artifacts, documents, music, photos, and more to highlight the, history, contributions and cultural influences of African Americans in the U.S. over the past 500 years.

You’ll see the “Doors of No Return,” which enslaved Africans passed through in Ghana to board ships to the “New World;” Malcom X’s journal and personal Koran; the robe Muhammad Ali wore during training for “Rumble in the Jungle,” the typewriter Alex Haley used to write “Roots,” and more.

Through September 18, 2009, you can buy one adult ticket and get one free using this flyer from WSB-TV at the box office. If you prefer to order tickets online, use promo code “family” at checkout. Limit 8 per transaction.

The cheapest tickets you can buy (without a promo code for a better deal) are at participating Wal-Marts. Tickets are $10 for adults & $4 for children ages 3-12. Wal-Mart doesn’t have senior tickets, but those 65 & up get an extra break—their tickets are $8 each (with ID).

America I AM will be at the Atlanta Civic Center through September 27, 2009. 395 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta. 404-523-6275.

Six Flags Over Georgia: Military Appreciation Donation Drive (5 Donations = $100 in Coupons) + Free Admission on Military Appreciation Days

Six Flags Over Georgia: Military Appreciation Donation Drive (5 Donations = $100 in Coupons) + Free Admission on Military Appreciation Days

Two great ways to support the troops at Six Flags Over Georgia during September:

1) During the Military Appreciation Donation Drive (September 19, 20, 26, & 27), if you donate five items for care packages sent to servicemen & women overseas, you’ll receive a coupon book with $100 worth of in-park savings. Stick to the official donation list—soldiers can’t store bulky items, so you’re buying things like flavored drink mixes in the packet, not large containers, or crackers in single-serving packages.

2) As a thank you to active members of the U.S. military, Six Flags Over Georgia is offering the men & women free admission. You’ll need to bring your military I.D. to get the deal, and it’s good for reservists, too. Bonus #1: The free admission includes the member of the military & up to two dependents. Bonus #2: If you need more tickets, you can buy them for half off at the gate.

The only catch is that you’ll need to show up on your designated day to take advantage of the free entry:

  • September 19: Air Force
  • September 20: Navy & Coast Guard
  • September 26: Army
  • September 27: Marines

P.S. Thank you for your service. I forever grateful to you for the sacrifices you & your families make.

Music Icon BB King hits the stage in mableton 9.2.2009

BB King

09-02-2009 (7:00 pm - 9:30 pm)
BB King

His reign as King of the Blues has been as long as that of any monarch on earth. Yet B.B. King continues to wear his crown well. At age 83, he is still light on his feet, singing and playing the blues with relentless passion. Time has no apparent effect on B.B., other than to make him more popular, more cherished, more relevant than ever. Don't look for him in some kind of semi-retirement; look for him out on the road, playing for people, popping up in a myriad of T.V. commercials, or laying down tracks for his next album. B.B. King is as alive as the music he plays, and a grateful world can't get enough of him.

B.B. continues to tour extensively, averaging over 250 concerts per year around the world. Classics such as "Payin' The Cost To Be The Boss," "The Thrill Is Gone," How Blue Can You Get," "Everyday I Have The Blues," and "Why I Sing The Blues" are concert (and fan) staples.
